What Makes You Happy?

Anyone else getting in touch with your creative, crafty-side. I’m just trying to get through winter, let me tell you it’s cold outside. I could sing the song but I’ll save that for the professional singers. Now is the time to hop on Pinterest, YouTube, or find a blog site with craft ideas. Lots of different resources out there to find great craft ideas. 2018 is all about doing what makes me happy. I understand responsibilities that’s a given in our daily lives. It’s important to take time out throughout the year and do what makes you happy. For me right now it’s doing crafts and finding different craft ideas.

Do What You Love!

Explore different hobbies that you might have an interest in.  Towards the end of the month, I’m taking an Essential Oil Class that’s focus will be on Wellness. I’m really looking forward to this class. I’ve always had an interest in essential oils now I will have an opportunity to learn more and be around other women that have the same interest. It should be a fun-filled evening.

For all the book-lovers check out your local library. I’ll be doing the same in the next coming days. Winter reading is great cozying up with a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows of course. Or maybe that’s just me but I love marshmallows. Maybe you can start a book club or join a book club. My sister was apart of a book club and they always had a lot of fun. Just a time to get out for the evening and have some grown-up time. Great book discussion with good food would make my day any day of the week. I do love a nice glass of wine preferably Moscato.

I’m trying to be more involved in 2018 with my online blog groups that I’m apart of it’s an opportunity to connect and learn from each other. It’s awesome to find bloggers that inspire me may it be on my own blog or just in my daily life. Resources that help you and I succeed in life.

Also, I’ve found great spiritual speakers that speak about singleness, relationships, finances, career and of course many other areas. It’s a great way for me to end my night. I’m motivated and encouraged for the next day also throughout the week.

Now for all the podcast listeners, I’m definitely including myself. A lot of great podcasts to choose from right now. Whatever suits your fancy trust me there is a podcast for you. You have different options to listen either on your way to work, the convenience of right at home, exercising, or during your lunch hour.

Find your happiness, embrace it, and most of all love yourself!

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

A lot of events happening in the next couple of days to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Please take time out of your day to attend an event near you. It’s important to realize the importance of civil rights, justice, and diversity. Most importantly to teach our children the importance to love one another.

My grandfather made an impact in my community by changing the policy on the public pool. The public pool was segregated for many years. My grandfather went to the city council meeting insisting that the public pool should be for everyone. My grandfather and also one of the deacon’s of my church confronted the injustice and they stood up for what they believed in. My grandfather was WWII veteran yet in his own community couldn’t even swim in the public pool or his family. The policy was changed to make the public pool for everyone thanks to the boldness and efforts of their actions.

Next, my sister and one of her friend’s went to the superintendent of the school in my community explaining the importance of the school honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Day. It wasn’t ok to do business as usual on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Day. The school should observe the day in honor of everything Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. did for civil rights. To think that my sister and her friend were in their early teens to speak boldly for what they believe in.

I think about my parents who were advocates for me ensuring that I received an equal education as my peers. Being classified as legally blind one administrator in the elementary didn’t want to make the proper accommodations for me to attend school in my community. My parents contacted Rehabilitation Services for the Blind who came to my school and ensured that the school would provide me reasonable accommodations that would give me an equal education as my peers. I thank my parents for standing boldly for what they believe that children with disabilities should have the same equal education as their peers.

From both of these stories one thing that I want to point out is, it doesn’t matter your age to the young to the old anyone can stand up to injustice. We should all care about the equality for everyone. We don’t pick and choose we care for the ENTIRE human race. It’s a sad day when we stop caring about one and another. It’s important to bring those to the table that doesn’t look like you, communicate with each other.  Great communication starts with listening to each other and realizing that everyone has a story. Learn from one and another for the good of humankind.

What to do with your vision board

Congratulation’s you made your vision board for 2018. Now you might be like me, now what’s next. First and foremost we need to pray for the year 2018 in our lives. Next, pray for the goals that we want to reach for the year 2018. For me, I pray if it’s your will God for my life. I’m right there with you we must set the foundation first.

Now it’s time to take the necessary steps to reach our goals. The vision board should be daily reminders of our vision for the year 2018. I know looking at my vision board it inspires me and brings joy to me. It’s time to get started for the year “The Kickoff”, let’s go! I’ll admit, I’ve been admiring my vision board the past couple of days. I have my theme for the year “Know Your Value” and then different words that inspire me for the year. Now is the time to hop to it and go after the goals for 2018.

I know for me 2018 is all about being my authentic self. Embrace who Ivy is love who I am. Not compromise the very foundation of who I am. Now it’s time for growth in all areas of my life. Know Your Value, is all about accepting who you are that you don’t need to compromise yourself to fit someone else’s mold. God created you counted each hair on your head. You are MAGNIFICENTLY made now is the time to embrace yourself. Soar! Walk into your destiny, Rise!

Please feel free to comment on your vision or goals for the year in the comment section. I’m all about encouraging each other.

Hello 2018, My Vision Board

Hello 2018! I’ve been busying working on my vision board for the year. I have to tell you I’ve enjoyed these last 2 days working on my vision board. It was a great way for me to bring in the new year. If you’ve never made a vision board it’s a great way to use your creativity and focus on what matters most to you.

My Theme for 2018 is (drum roll please) KNOW YOUR VALUE!

I took my theme and chose inspirational words to remind myself of who I am. For instance, I overcome the odds! God has seen me through every obstacle that I’ve encountered. I am not defeated I’m looking up! I will look at this on my vision board to remind me too never give up and for 2018 go after my goals. Be Victorious! Beauty, I have on my vision board for the reason that I finally love the reflection in the mirror. I love me! No matter what kind of day I might be having to remember that reflection…embrace it…as my inspirational words on my vision board…Shine! Don’t let anything dim the light that resides within me. God created me!

I chose inspirational words and sayings to encourage myself and push me towards my goals in life. Time for a change is all about living life! Of course this involves getting out of my comfort zone. I can literally lounge in my comfort zone. Life can pass you by with that mindset.

On my vision board I have goals for 2018. I want to go too grad school and obtain my Master’s Degree. My ultimate goal is to become a professor but 2018 will be my steps to help accomplish that goal of mine. Career is all about my goals professionally. 2017 was the struggle on job hunting. I know to look up and 2018 will be the year to soar.

Finance Slay is all about being more prosperous financially and making better decisions when it comes to money. A lot of focus on this particular portion on my vision board for 2018.

Of course iterryblog is on my vision board. I’m looking forward to blogging this year and bringing new ideas to my blog. It’s truly a great joy creating different blog posts for iterryblog. Just being apart of the blogging world! March 2018 will be my 1 year anniversary for iterryblog!

I hope my vision board might encourage you to make one. It would be a great group project with friends or even your kids. I could add lots more about my vision board on this blog post. Let me tell you that would make this one long blog post. I think for my first vision board which I took the crafty route turned out really good.

May your 2018 be filled with love, laughter and many blessings!

Adieu to 2017

Farewell to 2017 a monumental year for me where I met one of my major goals in my life. The many hours spent studying and finally it’s complete. February 2017 I completed all my coursework for my Bachelor’s of Science Business Administration Degree. At times I didn’t even know if that day would even come. Many tears shed wondering if I would complete this important goal in my life. Finally, my day arrived it’s here! It’s Here! I don’t have any children so this degree would be my baby. Now the day of my graduation it was pouring down rain. I mean it was pouring buckets that day. It’s the month of May what happened to May flowers instead it’s more like April showers. I had my immediate family with me that day. On the way to graduation as it’s pouring down rain Charlie Wilson’s song comes on “I’m Blessed” perfect timing to remind me how blessed this moment is for me and my family. I’m not going to lie my nerves were starting to build up. I threw out all of those nerves when I walked across the stage and my dad starts yelling (proud dad moment, I suppose) everyone starts laughing. At times I still can’t believe that I’m a official college grad.

2017 had it’s highs and lows but the highs outweigh the lows. As the end of 2017 approaches I’ve learned a lot about myself. Now it’s time to put it all together for 2018 and be an even better me. I look in the mirror and for the first time love the reflection back.

Adieu to 2017, see you in 2018!

Christmas Night

Christmas night, I’m sitting quietly thinking about God’s most amazing gift JESUS. I had a reminder how God always knows what I need. May it be in the midnight hour with tears rolling down my face or a joyful moment with family and friends. This Christmas night I want to give Thanks! Thank you to my Lord and Savior for keeping me in your loving care. Thank you for healing of my eye sight. Thank you for never leaving nor forsaken me. Thank you for your many blessings to my family, friends, and myself. Thank you for this beautiful tree that shines so bright during this Christmas night.

May you feel the love this Glorious Christmas Night

Pomegranate Lemonade Recipe

Today I want to share a Pomegranate Lemonade recipe that you can serve during the holiday season. Honestly, it’s great year round! If you’re looking for some new holiday drinks this one would be a send you on an island, with the waves hitting the beach sand pick.

Pomegranate Lemonade

1 1/2 cup pomegranate juice

1 can concentrate lemonade (no pulp or pulp-clearly up to you)

1 cup of pineapple juice

Follow the directions to make the lemonade. Next you will add in your pomegranate juice and pineapple juice. If you would like to make your own homemade lemonade just add the pomegranate juice and pineapple juice. I always say add as much or as little to suit your taste. This particular recipe should make a pitcher full. It’s a refreshing drink and not to mention a beautiful one as well.

Cheers!
